The International School of Surgery - ISS

At The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, we have a long-established reputation for providing high quality education, designed to support the evolving needs and interests of surgeons at all career stages, in the UK and internationally.

The RCSEd offers the ESSQ suite of postgraduate eLearning programmes for candidates preparing for the MRCS examination and for examinations at FRCS level. This programme provides the opportunity to gain diplomas at either MSc (Master of Science) or ChM level (Master of Surgery).

We offer assistance with core surgical skills, through our Basic Surgical Skills course, which is delivered internationally and in the UK.

In addition to core technical skills and preparation for MRCS and FRCS examinations, RCSEd delivers innovative educational programmes such as the highly acclaimed Non-Technical Skills for Surgeons and Training the Trainers programmes. We offer a range of educational resources, including podcasts, in the Membership area of the RCSEd website available to Members and Felllows through their unique login and password.

The expert staff and faculty of the Education Department design, develop and deliver evidence-based educational programmes, courses, resources and conferences. Our extensive educational portfolio is developed and managed in consultation with surgeons across all of the surgical specialties and relevant subject matter experts. It undergoes continual evaluation to ensure every event and resource, whether delivered at the College, in other venues across the UK or throughout the world, is both engaging and educationally effective.
